My Service in Asia: The Trip Home

Private Sadao S. Munemori

Our ship, the Pvt. Sadao S. Munemori
that brought us safely back to Canada.

A little heavy weather.

Kind of windy and a nice roll of the ship sometimes reaching 14°.

Order of the Golden Dragon

We also received a card as we crossed
the Date Line on our return home.

Corporal J. Funfer on top bunk and Bill.

Corporal J. Funfer on top bunk and Bill - - sliding out to facilitate turning, in order to lay on his other side. The bunks were so close it was the only way to roll over.

Ship's quarters on the Munemori.

As you can see, some people smartened up and slept in alternating positions to facilitate turning over as the bulge of the person above didn't bother as much. Mascots like the one shown here were disposed of by order. A sad incident in the 14 day crossing.

Bunk racks, sardines anyone.

Only the best for the boys. Bunks aboard the Munemori returning from Japan -1952

Lion's Gate Bridge

Spanning the entrance to Vancouver Harbour, it was wonderful to see the Lion's Gate Bridge again.

Passing under the Lion's Gate Bridge

Looking back at the bridge having passed under safely, I noticed the lifeboats stowed here and there. I wonder if there was enough for the number of troops aboard? Nice thought now that we are safely in friendly waters.

Vancouver Harbour

Beautiful Vancouver B.C., a sight for sore eyes.
