My Service in Asia - Korea

Canadian Signalmen visiting Korea.

On another trip to Korea I brought a group of replacement Signalmen for No. 25 Canadian Infantry Brigade Korea, Headquarters, and we passed through Seoul, Korea.

We stopped to have our picture taken at one of four gates leading into the Capital city.

BCF Headquarters

I am being a tourist again in Taegu.
(1951)  Outside what normally was a medical college and now partially used as headquarters for the BCF.

A road sign in Korea

I never did determine if this was a road sign or grave stones. The wire at the base is abandoned combat communication lines.

Soeul residents

Hustle and bustle of local residents. In the background women can be seen doing their washing in the meager flow of what was a river.

Korean gentleman smoking.

Traveling about near Brigade Headquarters I spotted this typical Korean gentleman smoking his pipe and asked if I may take a picture by using gestures. He kindly agreed and this is the result.

Asahi Beer Label

This is the label of the beer bought for the troops at a considerable saving rather than have Canadian Beer shipped over to us. It was enjoyed by all!

Asahi Beer Pinup

As a bonus each case of beer contained several pinups like this for the troop's enjoyment. Most thoughtful I'd say.

Typical rural house. Most Korean houses are heated by lighting a fire at an access opening below the dwelling on the prevailing wind side. The smoke and heat heats the hardened mud floor and exits through an opening on the opposite side of the house. I can't say if that is done at this house as I did not stop to check but if it is heated this way it is a wonder the house is still standing.
